A day after AFC Leopards disclosed that two of their young players had sneaked to Nigeria for trials, it has now emerged that Nairobi City Stars youngster Timothy ‘Babu’ Ouma is also part of the group in Nigeria.
Ingwe’s duo of Marvin Nabwire and Jaffar Owiti missed their team’s match against Nzoia Sugar on Saturday. The two did not show up in training for the last two weeks and it later emerged that they currently participating in a tournament in Nigeria where scouts from Europe are reportedly pitching camp with the hope of getting some exciting talents from across Africa.
Stars still believe in giving youngsters an opportunity to show their class. Stars have recently penned a deal with Timothy Ouma from Laiser Hill academy and Rowland Babu Makati from @Vaporfc to spice up their squad for a competitive come back. pic.twitter.com/me7whXNjbI— Soccerpower99 (@soccerpower99) September 1, 2020
Nairobi City Stars have now confirmed that their young midfielder has also gone AWOL and they suspect that he is among the player in the West African nation. According to CEO Patrick Korir, he was called by the player’s representative, Omar Masika on 8th May informing him that the player would be heading out for trials, a request that he declined. The following day, both the player’s and agent’s phones went off and they have not seen or heard from the player ever since.
“Last week on Saturday, I received a phone call at night from the player and later the agent who informed me of the scheduled trials in Nigeria where scouts from Europe will be present. I told them that what they were doing was unprocedural because we were preparing for a serious league match against Gor Mahia which Babu was supposed to play in. I told them to meet me at the office on Monday morning. On Sunday their phones went off and up to now I haven’t heard from the player or the agent but we suspect they are in Nigeria,” he told Mozzart Sport.
Babu joined Simba wa Nairobi last August penning a long-term with the Sanjin Alagic-led team. Before the league was halted, he had made 14 appearances for City Stars. He was named in the preliminary Kenya U20 squad last year for the team that traveled to Tanzania for Cecafa U20 Championship.
