Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) runners up KCB FC won the race to land James Mazembe beating Gor Mahia and Wazito FC to his signature.
The winger who joined the Bankers from Kariobangi Sharks noted that he was impressed with KCB’s ambitions and head coach Zedekiah Zico Otieno played an integral part in his signing.
Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Mazembe noted that Gor Mahia playing in the CAF Confederation Cup next season was not enough motivation for him to join the record Kenyan champions.
“My heart was with KCB, I know Gor Mahia will playing continental football in the coming season but that was not enough motivation to join them because I want to achieve that with KCB,”
“KCB is a good team you can see how they have grown over the past few years so I think I made the right decision to join them and hopefully we will win something together,” said Mazembe.
The winger is from a spectacular season with Sharks where he bagged the most assists (11) and chipped in with a couple of goals.
The former Kakamega High School alumnus also opened up on his season’s targets and was impressed with the talk he had with Zico.
“I want to add more assists this season than I did in the last season, the players at KCB are of quality, I cannot imagine that I will be playing with (Michael) Mutinda and Rio (Brian Ochieng’),”
“I held talks with coach Zico and I saw that we have similar ambitions because I want to grow and develop as a player,” added Mazembe.
